CMC Named NSF Engines Finalist

We are thrilled to share that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has selected our Critical Materials Crossroads (CMC) project as a finalist for the prestigious NSF Engines award.

Such recognition places our project in consideration for up to $160 million in funding over the next 10 years to build a resilient, domestic supply chain for critical materials. We are proud to share that CMC is one of 15 selected proposals advancing to this final stage.

Achieving this milestone reflects our dedication and vision in advancing the Kansas City region as a hub for innovation, advanced manufacturing, and national security resilience.

Together, we are working toward creating over 10,000 jobs, generating more than $17 billion in economic growth, and positioning our region at the forefront of critical materials production.

On behalf of the leadership team, thank you for your continued support and commitment to this transformative initiative. Recognition as a finalist for the NSF Engines award is not just UMKC’s achievement, but a collective milestone – one that celebrates the contributions of every partner and stakeholder in the CMC journey.
